🌿 The Cure and a Glimmer of Hope

Today began at 3:30 a.m. It took me about an hour to truly get moving, but eventually I was dressed and had pulled my tarot card for the day. From the Momento deck came The Cure—a sign I desperately hoped meant good news. I don’t think I could handle another day like yesterday. Babies are hard; I don’t do them easily. We’ve already lost two to pneumonia since we started, and here I am with Jezebel—fighting so hard for her, not ready in the least to watch her take a turn for the worse.

Next came the weather check. No rain today, so the stand would be open. Dinner was already planned and ordered, and I made quick work of organizing the girls’ school assignments for the day. Then it was on to clearing the stand camera.

The sun hadn’t yet risen, so I started my daily cleaning routine in the soft dark. After a quick bathroom refresh, I fed my sourdough starter for the day. The first light began to peek over the horizon, and I fit in another round of cleaning before feeding the turtle. Once he was taken care of, I went back to tidying while Franklin began the morning dog walks.

After a quick sweep of the hallway, I scattered feed for the chickens and kept going along my cleaning path. Bushka got her breakfast, and I refilled the lamb milk jug in the fridge between chores. Franklin fed Jezebel—who, thankfully, had regained some of her appetite.

Soon the girls were awake. After breakfast, they headed off to clean their room, while Lily went with Dameion to finish the remaining animal chores. Aria and Sephy worked through three seashell worksheets, a seashell memory game, and a few rounds of seashell tic-tac-toe before we iced the cookies we’d baked earlier. A short TV break followed while Charlie and I prepped lunch.

Lunch led right into nap time for Aria and Sephy, while Lily headed back out with Dameion to continue work on the chicken coop. By the time the girls woke, the coop was nearly complete.

The afternoon was a whirlwind of mini puzzles, zoo flashcards, book reading and reports, and lessons on nouns, pronouns, and verbs. Dinner came and went, followed by a bit of playtime. After snack, they squeezed in a few more minutes of games before bedtime routines began.

Once the girls were settled for the night, Dameion headed to Tractor Supply to pick up some much-needed sheep medicine for Jezebel. She was better than yesterday, but still not herself. We’re not out of the woods yet—but tonight, there’s a little more hope than there was the day before.

As I finally settled into the quiet of the evening, the hum of the day softened around me. The animals were fed, the girls were asleep, and the house felt calm for the first time since morning. My mind kept drifting back to The Cure card and the fragile thread of hope it carried. Jezebel’s still not in the clear, but she’s fighting—and so are we. Maybe tomorrow will bring steadier steps forward, but for tonight, I’ll rest knowing we made it through another day together.
