Today’s card was Salt, a reminder that cleansing was needed—and honestly, it fit the entire mood of the day. I actually slept in this morning. I cracked my eyes open at 6:30, but I stayed in bed until 7, not wanting to move. It wasn’t until Charlie got up that I finally forced myself out of the blankets and into the day.

Right after he went to the bathroom, Franklin was up too, and before long we were having a very real discussion. With twelve dogs already, taking in another one felt impossible… but then came the news. Shelly’s brother had a German shepherd pup who needed a home.

As I got the kids dressed, fed, and ready to go down to Mom’s, we kept talking it through. Logic said no. Our hearts said yes. In the end, we decided we would take her.

With the girls headed to Mom’s and Shelly taking the boys for a visit with their dad and grandparents, I set off for my thyroid ultrasound. A quick trip to Sam’s Club followed, and then we were back home prepping for dinner and getting the kids into wind-down mode.

As all the kids got home, we took a minute for an unexpected little class on opossums. Charlie had finally caught the one he’d been trying to trap, so the kids got to see the little guy up close. They were fascinated—wide-eyed, curious, and surprisingly gentle about the whole thing. Once everyone had a good look and a quick lesson, Charlie took him to a safer, better spot on the property where he could make a proper nest.

Not long after everyone was down and the dogs were walked, the pup arrived. She was nervous, coughing, unsure—so we spent the evening trying to help her settle in, giving her some medicine, and letting her explore her new world at her own pace.

By the time I finally crawled into bed, I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and quietly questioning my life choices. Salt brings cleansing, but it also brings truth… and today’s truth was a heavy one.

Here’s hoping tomorrow feels a little lighter.
