A Day for Stillness

This morning started like most do—I was up at my usual time and got dressed for the day. I pulled a card from my Momento tarot deck and drew the Scales. A quiet but firm reminder to weigh my actions and choices with care. It felt fitting, though I didn’t yet realize how much I’d be tested on that front.

Next came the weather check. I started with the radar, then flipped through the hourly and daily forecasts. Sure enough, storms were expected this afternoon. That meant no grazing and no stand again today. I reassigned Dameion to garden duty—unless the skies decided to open up, of course.

Aria had asked the night before if she could help with morning chores, so I woke her up and got her dressed while Sephy snuggled in her bed with Blue’s Clues playing softly in the background. Aria joined me for the morning routine, starting with the sourdough starter and moving on to feeding Snappy. After him came the dogs—we made it through all of them up to Lucifer, with just Alister left, before I had to stop.

The chest pain that had been nagging at me all morning suddenly became overwhelming—debilitating, even. I messaged Dameion to come take over, and asked Charlie’s parents if they could take the girls for the morning so I could try to get it under control. Just like that, the day I had planned was out the window.

Dameion helped Aria finish up the rest of the animal chores, and the girls had leftover funnel cakes for breakfast. Shortly after, they headed off to Charlie’s parents’ house to hang out until naptime.

While they were gone, I tried to move slowly through the bare minimum. I got some dishes done, ran a load of laundry, and gave the finished rooms a quick tidy. I worked a little on reorganizing the toy corner—something that’s felt like a never-ending project. Dameion took care of his usual chores and headed out on the lunch walk. After feeding Jezebel, he picked the girls up and brought them back home just in time for their nap.

While the girls napped, I did too. In truth, I stayed in bed the rest of the day while the guys stepped up to help with the girls. Mom and Dad helped us order chicken nuggets for dinner, and I stayed tucked in, resting as best I could. Dameion handled the animal chores, Franklin played in the hallway with the girls, and everything moved gently around me while I slept.

It wasn’t an eventful day. But it was a needed one. A day of quiet, of being still, of letting the world move without me. Hopefully—just hopefully—I’ll be better tomorrow.
